Fatima + Hisham: Middle Eastern Flare

Posted by Blush Magazine Posted on February 2, 2015

A chance encounter at Heathrow Airport turned out to be a life changing moment for Fatima and Hisham. They were both at Terminal 3 waiting on a flight to Edmonton. He was returning home from visiting friends in Germany and she was returning home from visiting family in Lebanon.

When Hisham saw Fatima he felt compelled to strike a conversation. Fatima ended up sitting next to Hisham and he asked if they were at the gate boarding to Edmonton. Fatima responded, “I was going to ask you the same thing.” From that point, they chatted until their boarding call. Once they landed and went their separate ways, Fatima was disappointed contact information wasn’t exchanged. To her surprise, a few hours later Hisham sent her a Facebook friend request and five days later they went on a date. The rest is history.

The Proposal

A traditional arabic proposal, Hisham and his family asked Fatima’s family for her hand in marriage.

The Big Day

There was no question the Fairmont Hotel MacDonald was their venue of choice. Once Fatima and Hisham had completed the tour they were set on The Wedgwood Room to create the romantic ambiance for their wedding day. Fatima and Hisham opted for an intimate wedding interlaced with unique details such as Arabic desserts served in lieu of a wedding cake and classical Arabic music played by Hisham’s father and his friends before the arabic DJ played dance music. Additionally, Fatima incorporated a family heirloom in her wedding day ensemble—antique gloves and a clutch that was a gift from Fatima’s late grandfather to her mother.

Favourite Moments

Fatima: “The first look because the day felt like a production but I had to see Hisham to feel normal again.”

Hisham: “After dinner when the party started, I was relieved of all the nerves after the speeches.”
