Rustic Lake House Wedding

Lake House Calgary Wedding: Lauren + Greg

Posted by Blush Magazine Posted on October 16, 2015

Lauren and Greg met through an online dating site and casually dated for a month or two before going their separate ways because neither of them was interested in anything serious. Fast-forward two years—Laruen and Greg bumped into each other by chance and sparks flew. “It really goes to show that timing is everything,” says Laruen, “we were the perfect match once we were both ready.”

The Proposal

A surprise birthday escape to San Francisco with a vineyard proposal overlooking the most exquisite view of Northern California’s wine country, left Lauren speechless. She notes it was special, romantic and unforgettable.

The Big Day

Getting married just two days after Christmas, the couple avoided a holiday theme celebration and opted for a rustic, romantic elegance—a motif beautifully captured by large antler chandeliers, handsome wood floors and tables, and a gigantic cozy fireplace at The Lake House. The instant the couple walked into The Lake House they both knew that it was the perfect venue. It offers a small private room, which was perfect for their intimate ceremony. The main room overlooking the frozen lake was picturesque for a winter wedding and perfect for hosting a larger gathering. Aside from the look and feel of the space itself, they wanted to offer their guests an unbelievable meal and great wine. The Lake House is renowned for quality and service so that decision was very easy for Lauren and Greg to make. Each guest left with half a dozen homemade cookies baked by the bride’s mother which added a homey charm to the evening’s end.

Favourite Moments

Lauren:My favourite moment of the day was the “first look” photo. We decided to do our photos earlier in the day so that we could move seamlessly from ceremony to reception. The first look took place on a staircase at the Kensington Inn, where the girls had been getting ready. I had been a bundle of nerves all morning but the instant I saw Greg’s face I knew that it was going to be an amazing day and was so excited to marry him! It was really nice to have those quiet moments together and enjoy the moment – the rest of the night flew by!”

Greg: “Lauren and I each picked a close friend to “co-MC” the wedding. We decided that they would each say a few words about us as part of the program and then our parents would be the only other speeches. As part of his bit, my friend Danny had written a hilarious, fully rhyming poem about me that had the whole crowd roaring. Lauren and I loved the poem so much that we had it printed and framed – it still makes us laugh every time we look at it!”

Advice from the Newlyweds

“The best advice we can give is to compromise! Pick the items that really, truly are a “must have” for each partner and then be willing to be flexible on everything else. In the end, the day should be a reflection of both of you. We would also highly recommend using a decor planner or day of coordinator.”

Looking Forward to Most Now Being Married

“Prior to getting married we both knew that we were excited to start a family quite quickly. Now we’re happy to say that we are expecting our first baby in November and we can’t wait to start our own little family and traditions together!”
