Carolyn + Jared: Kananaskis Wedding

Posted by Blush Magazine Posted on March 9, 2016

City girl meets mountain man; that’s how Carolyn describes her relationship with Jared and their wedding style. The pair met through friends and eventually moved to an acreage, where Jared proposed.

The Proposal

They were enjoying the view from their garden when Jared popped the question. Carolyn, a bit preoccupied, replied with “yeah, you bet Jerry.” When she turned around and saw the ring in his hand, she thought he was joking. It took nearly five minutes for Jared to convince Carolyn he was serious, after which she enthusiastically said “yes”.

The Big Day

The couple wanted their wedding day to be relaxed and fun while incorporating their personal style. They chose the Kananaskis Guest Ranch because it provided a weekend getaway for guests and a beautiful mountain backdrop to exchange vows. Globe lights, candles and an open fire added warmth to the reception space while mason jars and galvanized metal buckets filled with wildflowers completed the rustic feel. The boutonnieres were made from old bullet casings and guests took home jars of local honey. Jared and Carolyn made signs from old barn wood found on their property, which now reside in the same garden where they got engaged.

Favourite Moments

While Carolyn marks their vows as a highlight, Jared can’t pick just one moment: “The whole day was filled with lots of laughs, lots of love. It was an unbelievable day.”

Advice from the Newlyweds

Relax and go with the flow! Don’t sweat over small details; remember that it is just one day and it will be memorable no matter what you do or what happens. When we look back at our wedding, the lights, the cake and the flowers–although beautiful–did not make the day. It was all of the love and support we received from our friends and family, who were all in one room, celebrating us. Any kinks that were thrown at us just added character to the wedding and are hilarious stories now.

Looking Forward to Most Now Being Married

We are just excited to be married, live a happy life and grow our family. As sad as it is that the ‘big’ day is over, it’s so nice to look back, reflect on the day and remember how wonderful it was!
