Summer Jasper WeddingKailey + David: Summer Jasper Wedding

Posted by Blush Magazine Posted on August 30, 2018

While studying medicine, Kailey feigned an interest in orthopaedic surgery just to meet Dave for a coffee. She asked him out for a drink later that day and they spent their first official date skating at Hawrelak Park.

The Proposal

While living in Ottawa, the pair rode bikes along the Rideau Canal, over the Love Lock Bridge and into Gatineau. As they were sitting down to a sunset picnic, Dave popped the question.

The Big Day

Kailey and Dave exchanged vows in front of the grand fireplace at the Jasper Park Lodge—a place they had shared many memories together and with their families. Kailey’s brother performed a hand-fasting ceremony to honour her Scottish heritage. The newlyweds then drove off in her dad’s Triumph TR-6 convertible to have some fun moments alone before the big party.

Varying shades of blue, grey, gold and pops of deep red complemented the late-summer colours of the Rockies. The reception room featured décor they found while living in France, framed family wedding photos, and Kailey’s dad’s vintage skis as a guest book. The sweet-toothed couple created a French Pâtisserie-inspired dessert bar and used their initials to come up with the ultimate midnight snack—deluxe “KD” Mac n’ Cheese.

Newlywed Advice

“We were initially on the fence about doing videography and we were so happy we did it in the end. It captures the feeling of the day so well and we’ll be watching it for years to come. The grandparents that couldn’t travel to the wedding also really appreciated it.”

Looking Forward to Most Now Being Married

The pair have recently moved to Victoria, BC, and are excited to explore the island, advance their careers, and start a family together.

Traditional British WeddingLindsey + Anthony: Traditional British Wedding

Posted by Blush Magazine Posted on August 28, 2018

Lindsey and Anthony fell in love at first sight at a public philosophy lecture at the University of Calgary. They discovered a mutual love for philosophy, literature and their British heritage.

The Proposal

Anthony proposed to Lindsey inside of a historical building in Calgary, with the help of a little orange elephant.

The Big Day

They were married in a traditional Church of England service in front of six special guests. Anthony’s father walked Lindsey down the aisle to the beautiful music of a Casavant Fréres organ—one of the largest in Western Canada with 5,000 pipes. Lindsey wore something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue—and David even gave her a silver sixpence to put in her shoe.

After their solemn yet uplifting ceremony, they stepped into a silver Bentley as man and wife to head to Lindsey’s childhood home for their reception. Holding the dinner where Lindsey had so many fond memories created the nostalgic, intimate and romantic atmosphere they wanted.

They served an eight course pescatarian meal on Blue Mikado china that Lindsey’s grandmother had received for a wedding gift, and had their menus written in blue calligraphy to match.

Favourite Moments

Lindsey: “Getting into the back of the Silver Bentley with Anthony and looking into one another’s eyes as man and wife was such a romantic and precious moment for me. Cutting the cake with my son Anton, and our delight in eating it!
”

Anthony: “Watching my gorgeous wife step into the church nave, accompanied by my father, to the soaring sound of Bach’s Largo on the pipe organ at Knox Church – it was so humbling and lovely.’

Urban Calgary WeddingAmber + Steven: Urban Calgary Wedding

Posted by Blush Magazine Posted on April 2, 2018

Meeting your future spouse through mutual friends is fairly common, but what makes Amber and Steven’s story unique is that they met through a friend in Indonesia. At the time Steven was working for a travel company and Amber was touring through Southeast Asia. They fell hard and fast for each other on a trip with friends to Thailand, then spent two weeks together on some remote islands in Vietnam. Six months later they finished university and moved in together.

The Proposal

Steven surprised Amber with an early birthday gift—a trip to New York City to watch the US Open. He surprised her again on the trip with tickets to see the Blue Jays play the Yankees, but he saved the best surprise for last. As they were crossing a beautiful bridge in Central Park with bagels in hand and the city skyline in the background, Steven popped the question.

The Big Day

Amber and Steven were married at a private ranch, but wanted a unique reception space. “The Commons had the industrial feel that allowed us to create our vision.” They served a featured cocktail inspired by the official cocktail of the US Open, the Honey Deuce, and called it the Honey I Do.

Outdoor Mountain WeddingMonika + Jeremy: Outdoor Mountain Wedding

Posted by Blush Magazine Posted on March 7, 2018

Monika and Jeremy’s journey down the aisle started over ten years ago in the hallways of their residence at Copenhagen Business School while they were on a university exchange.

The Proposal

The charming Brit fell for the Alberta girl at first sight, and he brought her back to the scene of their first meeting for a weekend getaway to supposedly celebrate her new job. They snuck into the residence and he proposed outside their old rooms. They spent the rest of the day visiting their favourite spots in Copenhagen reminiscing about the past and planning for their future together.

The Big Day

With half of their guests coming from the UK and elsewhere abroad, Monika and Jeremy wanted an outdoor ceremony site to showcase the best of her home province. They chose Banff for its gorgeous Rocky Mountain views, but also because it was one of the first places they went on holiday together. They added a few personal touches to their wedding day, including a candy bar with a variety of British and Polish sweets to reflect their heritages, a cheese wheel cake in addition to a traditional cake, and a homemade photo booth with a polaroid camera.

Favourite Moments

Monika: “It was incredibly special to have all of our closest friends and family altogether in one place. The wedding speeches and MCs were all wonderful, and walking back down the aisle with Jeremy as husband and wife!”

Jeremy: “Too many to mention really, but seeing Monika in her dress for the first time and watching her walk down the “aisle” with her Dad; our mothers’ reading during the ceremony and all the fantastic speeches are all very special memories.”

Valley Mountain WeddingKatie + Austin: Valley Mountain Wedding

Posted by Blush Magazine Posted on January 17, 2018

Katie and Austin met on the lake in Vernon, B.C one summer, and although they never stopped thinking about each other they didn’t start dating until two years later

The Proposal

Austin planned a romantic mountain getaway for their third anniversary and wanted to kick it off with an early morning hike before checking into their hotel. A heavy downpour derailed their plan—and Austin’s proposal—so they decided to check in early. When they arrived in their room, Austin noted that there was supposed to be champagne waiting for them. Katie hugged and thanked him for planning such a special anniversary, and suddenly Austin was on one knee asking her to marry him.

The Big Day

Katie and Austin chose to get married in the same area where they met and spend time every summer, and found Silver Sage Stables—a rustic venue nestled in a quiet mountain valley. They also wanted their wedding to be a big party and reflect who they are as a couple: unconventional and relaxed. They skipped the formal dinner and seating charts for a more social atmosphere, including a bohemian parlour in the grass. During the reception, Austin surprised Katie with his guitar and sang “Are You Gonna Kiss Me or Not” by Thomson Square.

Favourite Moments

Katie: “It’s hard to choose one favourite moment when the entire day went so perfectly. Probably when Austin surprised me by getting up in front of everyone with his guitar to sing “Are you gonna kiss me or not.” I could hardly believe just how lucky I am to have a (new) husband that would do something like that for me.”

Austin: “The moment Katie walked down the aisle toward me, accompanied by her mom and dad. It felt like everything was meant to be and our lives had always been connected.”
