Handmade Outdoor WeddingKeeley + Braden: Handmade Outdoor Wedding

Posted by Blush Magazine Posted on February 1, 2017

Keeley and Braden’s story is one of missed connections; they would often meet at parties, but the timing never seemed right. Braden asked her on a date in the spring of 2011, which Keeley nearly missed due to car and phone troubles, but after that first date they knew they were right for each other.

The Proposal

Shortly after the couple moved back to Camrose, they celebrated Keeley’s birthday together. Braden made the same meal he did when he first cooked for Keeley, then proposed on a walk through the valley.

The Big Day

Friends and family put in hours of hard work to fulfill Keeley’s vision for a handmade outdoor wedding on her family’s land. Keeley’s mom and sister made her wedding gown, veil, bridesmaids’ dresses and getting-ready robes. Everything from the eclectic décor to the cookie bar was handmade—the bride and groom even made the patties for their gourmet burger dinner. Despite the cool and wet weather, everyone enjoyed dancing and clinking glasses of local craft beer served on tap.

Favourite Moments

The newlyweds obviously loved the moment Keeley walked down the aisle, but her sister’s hilarious speech was a close second; it finished with a video of friends and family from all over singing Queen’s “Somebody to Love.”

Looking Forward to Most Now Being Married

With the hard work of wedding planning over, Keeley and Braden look forward to relaxing and traveling before starting a family.

Fancy Farm WeddingChristine + Adam: Fancy Farm Wedding

Posted by Blush Magazine Posted on January 24, 2017

Christine and Adam met in 2008 while both in school studying engineering. Since then they’ve taken on the world together through graduation, moving in together, traveling, acquiring two cats, and a lot of laughing along the way.

The Proposal

This pair got engaged on the most unlikely of days, April Fools Day! Adam fooled Christine into thinking he had no special plans, but when he whipped out a Ring Pop candy, she wasn’t sure what to think. When she opened it up, she found a beautiful (real) antique ring inside!

The Big Day

As for the wedding day, Adam and Christine knew they wanted the day to be fun but still fancy. The venue was the farm Adam grew up on, which meant they had full control over everything and there was no rush to get out at the end of the night. Each guest received personalized notes along with some plantable seed paper confetti, and a donation in their name to the Stollery Children’s Hospital. From the decorations to the alter, Christine and Adam made nearly everything by hand.

Favourite Moments

Christine’s favourite moment was giggling with Adam at the sweetheart table, and Adam’s was all of the hilarious and kind words their best friends and parents shared during the speeches.

Newlywed Advice

‘Oh boy, it’s not a new epiphany, but we were still blindsided by how quickly it all went by after months of planning, so we would say take as many moments together (even just goofy glances) on the day as possible, don’t fret about forgotten details, or not spending as much time with everyone as you’d hope for, and hire a day-of-coordinator to take care of all the inevitable hiccups that occur throughout the day.’

Looking Forward to Most Now Being Married

The newlyweds are most excited to be “official” best friends and take on life as a team.

Garden Calgary WeddingNancy + Ryan: Garden Calgary Wedding

Posted by Blush Magazine Posted on January 19, 2017

It’s not too often a blind date ends in happily ever after, but that was exactly the case for Nancy and Ryan when their friends set them up!

The Proposal

The proposal happened at Nancy’s family farm out in Springbank, AB. Ryan had asked Nancy’s father for permission beforehand, and then lead her to the bench her grandfather made for her grandmother. Among the rose petals and champagne, she said yes!

The Big Day

As for the wedding day, Nancy and Ryan were focused on making sure they and their guests enjoyed a really fun day. They chose Rouge as the venue because they both wanted to put an emphasis on a great meal and great wine, plus they got to take over the entire house and garden! They had MBF playing music with a four person string band, Monogram serving coffee, and lots of dancing and drinks. Another special touch for the couple was having Ryan’s best friend officiate the ceremony!

Favourite Moments

While there were too many amazing moments to pick just one, Nancy will always remember Ryan’s face as she was walking down the aisle, and the father-daughter dance to Graceland. Ryan’s highlight was simply marrying Nancy in the rain during a meaningful and personal ceremony.

Nature Inspired WeddingJeanelle + Nicholas: Nature Inspired Wedding

Posted by Blush Magazine Posted on January 17, 2017

When you grow up in small-town Alberta, everyone knows everyone. Jeanelle and Nic always knew who each other were, but never spoke until Jeanelle had to track him down for his missing volleyball jersey at school. They’ve been together ever since.

The Proposal

After being apart for five years while Jeanelle was at university, Nic knew he wanted to marry his best friend. On a perfect summer night he wrote Jeanelle a letter with instructions that led her to a meadow at sunset. As she approached she heard music, and then found Nic standing under a flowered archway surrounded by candles and lanterns. After dancing under the stars, Nic got down on one knee and proposed.

The Big Day

Jeanelle and Nic wanted to honour their rural roots at their wedding; they held the ceremony at the church they both attended growing up and hosted their reception at a hall surrounded by farmland. The simple elegance of nature inspired their décor of lush greenery, garden roses and antlers. Because Jeanelle’s parents both passed away when she was 15, she had her four older sisters walk her down the aisle and had them join in on a family dance in lieu of a father-daughter dance.

Favourite Moments

Jeanelle: “My favourite moment was walking out of the main doors of the church to the sound of the cathedral bells after the ceremony. It was my favourite because I knew I finally married my best friend and that this was a once in a lifetime kind of love.”

Nicholas:I had too many favourite moments to pick just one. Watching Jeanelle walk down the isle with her sister and celebrating all night with family and friend on a packed dance floor were some of my highlights.”

Mountain Backdrop WeddingMegan + JP: Mountain Backdrop Wedding

Posted by Blush Magazine Posted on January 12, 2017

For some women, it’s a guy’s smile or sense of humour that attracts them. For Megan, it was the breakdancing moves J.P busted out at a party that sealed the deal.

The Proposal

After a few years of dating, J.P surprised Megan with a weekend trip to Vancouver for her birthday. By this time Megan had given up all hopes of getting engaged, so she was completely shocked when J.P proposed during a walk along the Seawall.

The Big Day

The fun-loving couple wanted a venue in the mountains that would also deliver the most bang for their buck. They loved the cabin-style charm of Cornerstone Theatre in Canmore, and how it was neutral enough to work with any colour scheme. After sealing their vows with a kiss, they concluded their outdoor ceremony with a fist pump from Megan and a thumbs up from J.P. “I loved that we were able to share our personalities with everyone at that moment,” says J.P. The newlyweds enjoyed some quiet moments together during photos to reflect on the ceremony and share some laughs, then arrived at their reception on top of the limo to kick off the party.

Favourite Moments

Megan: “During photos we were taken to a location where the wedding parties stayed in the limo and it was just us with the photographer. Having that time to reflect on the ceremony, share our excitement, and have some laughs was amazing. Many people told us before the wedding that we should try to take a minute or two just be together and take in the day, this part of the photo shooting allowed us to have 15 or 20.”

John Paul: My favourite moment was seeing Megan walk down the aisle. She had the biggest smile on her face and I could tell how excited she was to be walking towards me. After our first kiss as husband and wife, and in our true style, we turned to our families, Megan pumped her fist and I gave a thumbs up. I loved that we were able to share our personalities with everyone at that moment.”
