Wintry Fairytale Wedding
Madeleine + Vince: Wintry Fairytale WeddingPosted by Blush Magazine • Posted on September 22, 2020
Vince was burnt out and considering leaving Calgary for an opportunity in Nashville when he saw Madeleine’s picture on Tinder. He didn’t think she was real but swiped right anyway, and she messaged him to meet for coffee. After a few short hours with Madeleine, Vince knew he had found his reason to stay.
The Proposal
Vince threw Madeleine a surprise party for her birthday, which included her best friend from Ontario wrapped in a giant box. She also unwrapped a sock with the words “Madeleine, if you can read this…” printed on the sole. She turned around to find Vince holding a small box and the matching sock that said, “Will you marry me?”
The Big Day
The couple wanted a wintery fairytale wedding, and since Vince is from New Zealand they wanted to showcase the stunning Rocky Mountains for their overseas guests. They also incorporated their favourite things into the wedding: hundreds of candles cast an enchanting glow over their outdoor evening ceremony and elegant reception; a few of Vince’s groomsmen performed a traditional haka dance; and the bride and groom got unity tattoos during the reception.
When Vince asked Madeleine’s father for his blessing, he also asked to take their family name. Her dad presented Vince with the family sword at the reception to symbolically welcome him to the Washington family. The newlyweds aspire to creating their own legacy together.

Advice from the Newlyweds
“Weddings are a big business and it’s incredibly easy to get swept up in all of it. Stay true to your vision and your direction so that, when the wedding day comes along, it’s in a place that still feels like you.”
