Lana + Arafat: Ultra Chic Wedding

Posted by Blush Magazine Posted on October 29, 2011

Lana was different from other girls whom Arafat had encountered; from the moment they met, her name lingered in his memory. Their relationship began innocently with the borrowing of a pen. Lana was working at a small local restaurant and happened to be standing by Arafat with pen in hand, just as he asked for one—how serendipitous! They shared a brief conversation but, after Arafat had left the restaurant, months passed before their next exchange.Arafat again visited the eatery and asked about Lana—he knew he had to talk to her. It was during this second conversation that Lana began to find her way into Arafat’s heart. He asked her to go for coffee, which turned into sushi, which evolved into a five-year courtship which ended in their exchange of nuptial vows.

It was after a year of their blissful romance, on the celebration of Arafat’s birthday, that Lana, to make the event extra special, designed a unique scavenger hunt for him. The pursuit was designed to go through the span of the whole day, beginning in the downtown core where Lana provided Arafat with his first clue. As he found each clue, he received a gift along with the hunt’s next clue. The most significant of these clues, however, was the first—a visit to the Fairmont Hotel Macdonald where they had shared their second date. Inside the package that awaited him there, Arafat found a grey silk handkerchief that Lana had ordered for him from Harrods. That moment foreshadowed what was to come on their wedding day.

The Proposal

Arafat surprised Lana with a fairy-tale getaway to the Banff area where they spent a weekend at a boutique hotel in Canmore and went on a very special hike. As they walked through the mountains of Johnston Canyon, Arafat found the most perfectly secluded spot where he pulled the diamond ring from his pocket and eloquently professed his love for Lana, ending with “I want to spend the rest of my life with you, will you marry me?”

The Big Day

It was after a year of their blissful romance, on the celebration of Arafat’s birthday, that Lana, to make the event extra special, designed a unique scavenger hunt for him. The pursuit was designed to go through the span of the whole day, beginning in the downtown core where Lana provided Arafat with his first clue. The most significant of these clues, however, was the first—a visit to the Fairmont Hotel Macdonald where they had shared their second date. It seemed suitable, therefore, for Lana and Arafat to celebrate their wedding, the beginning of their future as a couple, at a venue which had played a role in some of the most significant moments of their shared history. Lana & Arafat celebrated with their closest friends of family in an intimate guest list of 100. Not a detail was overlooked in the planning from their ultra chic style to the fresh floral arrangements that covered the ballroom.

Favourite Moments

Lana gave her future husband the gift of a newly embroidered handkerchief, while Arafat gave his future wife something old—the handkerchief from Harrods that she had given him, which he had had embroidered with her favourite quote. This exchange was Lana’s favourite moment of their wedding day. Arafat’s, he remembers, was “being up in front of everybody and professing my love for her”; despite being in front of their family and friends, it felt, because of his passion for her, as if it were just the two of them.
