Fairmont Hotel Macdonald Wedding
Keeping with the TraditionPosted by Blush Magazine • Posted on February 1, 2022
Sparks flew along with the softballs when Monique and Mark played slo-pitch together in university. When Mark was ready to pop the question, he knocked it out of the park with a sentimental proposal.
The Proposal
Mark drove Monique to the Alberta Legislature grounds and proposed at the same spot where they shared their first kiss. They celebrated with a takeout dinner from the restaurant where they had their first date and a weekend staycation at the Fairmont Hotel Macdonald.
The Big Day
Monique and Mark love to travel and spent much of the pandemic exploring their home province and staying at Fairmont hotels. They knew they wanted to make Fairmont a part of their big day, and with only four months to plan it was an easy decision to book the Fairmont Hotel Macdonald.
Despite a cloudy sky the day of, they decided to take a chance on the weather and stick with an outdoor ceremony on the hotel’s terrace. The clouds cleared just in time for Mark to walk down the aisle to a string quartet version of the James Bond theme to await his bride. They also had live music during their cocktail hour, first dance and reception for a fun and unique touch.
Monique’s dad had health issues leading up to their wedding, so dancing with him was a special moment for her—especially when he busted out his signature dance move to a roaring crowd!

Advice from the Newlyweds
“Hire a wedding planner! Our planning process was almost as fun as our wedding. It meant a lot to us to enjoy the entire experience and our wedding planner helped us do that.”
Looking Forward to Most Now Being Married
Monique and Mark look forward to building their dream home, travelling internationally again, and starting a family.
