Intimate Backyard Wedding

Katie and Simon met through mutual friends, then continued to bump into each other until Katie gently nudged him into asking her out on a date.

The Proposal

On the last night of their Colombian vacation, Simon suggested they cap things off with a drink on their hotel’s rooftop terrace. They ascended rose petal-covered stairs and found a single table set up with champagne and surrounded by flowers. As Katie turned around, Simon got down on one knee and asked her to spend the rest of her life with him.

The Big Day

The couple initially planned a 300-person wedding at the Aga Khan Gardens followed by a swanky reception downtown at the JW Marriott, but when the pandemic struck they knew this wouldn’t become a reality any time soon. They decided that the act of getting married was more important than throwing an elaborate event, so they decided to have a small ceremony and dinner in the yard where Simon grew up. A clear tent, elegant floral arrangements and rustic décor in a neutral palette turned the already beautiful yard into a wedding venue beyond what they imagined.

Katie’s anxiety dissipated the moment she saw Simon at their first look, then when Katie read her vows Simon took the moment to absorb every special detail of their day—especially his beautiful wife.
