Fancy Farm WeddingChristine + Adam: Fancy Farm Wedding

Posted by Blush Magazine Posted on January 24, 2017

Christine and Adam met in 2008 while both in school studying engineering. Since then they’ve taken on the world together through graduation, moving in together, traveling, acquiring two cats, and a lot of laughing along the way.

The Proposal

This pair got engaged on the most unlikely of days, April Fools Day! Adam fooled Christine into thinking he had no special plans, but when he whipped out a Ring Pop candy, she wasn’t sure what to think. When she opened it up, she found a beautiful (real) antique ring inside!

The Big Day

As for the wedding day, Adam and Christine knew they wanted the day to be fun but still fancy. The venue was the farm Adam grew up on, which meant they had full control over everything and there was no rush to get out at the end of the night. Each guest received personalized notes along with some plantable seed paper confetti, and a donation in their name to the Stollery Children’s Hospital. From the decorations to the alter, Christine and Adam made nearly everything by hand.

Favourite Moments

Christine’s favourite moment was giggling with Adam at the sweetheart table, and Adam’s was all of the hilarious and kind words their best friends and parents shared during the speeches.

Newlywed Advice

‘Oh boy, it’s not a new epiphany, but we were still blindsided by how quickly it all went by after months of planning, so we would say take as many moments together (even just goofy glances) on the day as possible, don’t fret about forgotten details, or not spending as much time with everyone as you’d hope for, and hire a day-of-coordinator to take care of all the inevitable hiccups that occur throughout the day.’

Looking Forward to Most Now Being Married

The newlyweds are most excited to be “official” best friends and take on life as a team.

New Year’s Eve Vermillion WeddingReanne + Ryan: NYE Vermillion Wedding

Posted by Blush Magazine Posted on August 25, 2016

Reanne and Ryan first met through mutual friends at Laurier Lake, then reconnected several years later when Reanne commented on Ryan’s Facebook photo of his new snowmobile.

The Proposal

The couple eventually built a home at the same lake where they met, and Ryan proposed to Reanne on the same sled; he got down on one knee, told her he wanted to spend the rest of his life with her, and asked her to marry him. An ecstatic Reanne said “yes!”

The Big Day

The bride and groom wanted to have all of their friends and family celebrate with them, so they held their New Year’s Eve wedding in Reanne’s hometown of Vermilion, AB. They decked the hall in blush, gold and sequins to evoke an era of vintage glamour. A boutique lounge area created with antique furniture made for fun indoor photos, and guests indulged in a champagne bar. Reanne wore her dream dress, Monroe by Hailey Paige, which she fell in love with after seeing it featured in Blush Magazine.

Favourite Moments

Reanne’s favourite moment was when Ryan sang her down the aisle to “Never Stop” by SafetySuit. Ryan’s favourite moment was, of course, seeing his beautiful bride for the first time.

Vintage Glam WeddingJulie + Jared: Vintage Glam Wedding

Posted by Blush Magazine Posted on March 20, 2016

Julie and Jared met by chance at a club, but afterwards Julie kept blowing off his requests for a date. One night Jared turned the tables on Julie and blew her off instead. “It was pretty much the kick in the butt to realize he was a great guy,” says Julie. A few kids and a house later, they were ready to tie the knot–literally.

The Proposal

Jared’s plan for a romantic proposal was thwarted twice by family emergencies. Wary about jinxing a third attempt, he grabbed the ring and proposed on the spot after Christmas dinner. He told Julie that life would throw them all sorts of curve balls, but no matter what they could overcome them together.

The Big Day

The couple honoured Julie’s Cambodian heritage by holding traditional Khmer ceremonies, including the final knot-tying ceremony. “This was my favorite moment, this was when it felt real,” says Julie.

They also held a western ceremony outdoors and a vintage-glam reception at the Matrix Hotel. Julie took a DIY approach to decor with accents of gold, blush and crystal, even making the paper flower backdrop used at both the ceremony site and the reception.

Favourite Moments

Julie: “The Khmer ceremony there’s the last ceremony, which they coincidentally call it tying the knot. The grooms mother holds her future daughter in laws hands and leads her to her son, as she leads her to her son her bridesmaid cover the brides face with red fans. This was my favourite moment, this was when it felt real.”

Jared:My favourite moment was seeing Julie walk down the isle. She looked so beautiful and seeing the look on everyone’s face when they finally saw her was priceless.”

Featured Wedding: September 20, 2014Kathryn & Marek's Whimsical Vintage

Posted by Blush Magazine Posted on March 2, 2015

Kathryn and Marek met by chance at a bar when they locked eyes across the crowded room. Kathryn whispered to her friend that she thought he was cute, and her friend played wingwoman and told Marek. Embarrassed and tipsy, Kathryn introduced herself. They instantly clicked, exchanged numbers, and four years later found themselves locking eyes at the altar.

The Proposal

One Christmas Eve morning Marek surprised Kathryn with breakfast in bed–complete with eggs, bacon and a diamond ring. Kathryn was so stunned she nearly dropped her coffee. She was speechless. “I had about ten chances to take my words back,” says Marek, “but I never would.”

The Big Day

The couple wanted to incorporate Marek’s Polish heritage into their wedding; they held their ceremony at the Holy Rosary Polish Church, wrote a thank you message on an old door in both English and Polish, and made their guests take a shot of Marek’s father’s homemade nalewka if they wanted to see the newlyweds kiss.

For the reception, Kathryn wanted a venue that “had a rustic feel, but not too country.” She found it in the exposed beams and cozy fireplaces at Snow Valley then completed her vision with whimsical vintage decor.

Favourite Moments

Kathryn: “Listening to my parents and my brothers welcome Marek to our family. They said the kindest words and reaffirmed that I was making the best decision of my life.”

Marek: “Spending the entire day, and weeks leading up to our wedding with family and friends. Both my grandmothers and an uncle and cousin flew in from Poland to share our special day.”

Featured Wedding: January 18, 2014Denée & David's Vintage Banff Wedding

Posted by Blush Magazine Posted on January 18, 2014

Denée and David first met back in 2003 at a concert for a band called “The Music” in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Little did they know at their first encounter, that together they would move across the country several times until they made Calgary, Alberta their home.

The Proposal

David coordinated for Denée’s entire family to be in attendance as a surprise visit on her 30th birthday. Being surrounded by all of her loved ones also set the perfect tone for David to pop the question. We can assume that Denée’s engagement ring and marriage proposal may have been her favourite birthday gift of all time.

The Big Day

When Denée and David began to plan their wedding day they both agreed that their guests experience was very important to them, so they chose to have their wedding in the beautiful surroundings of Banff, Alberta. They invited all of their guests a night before the wedding to the Banff Avenue Brewing Company, which was the perfect opportunity to visit and mingle with guests in a causal and relaxed setting. Unlike most weddings, the couple chose to have their ceremony in the late afternoon and saved the morning to have their “first look.” They spent the rest of the morning touring Banff and taking formal pictures with their bridal party. Denée reminiscences back to the morning of her wedding day and shares “it allowed me to connect with Dave, calm my nerves and truly enjoy the rest of the day.” Their wedding day theme was elegant with a nod to rustic and vintage. To follow in family tradition Denée wore her great-grandmothers cameo ring which perfectly complimented her 1920’s feel. The bridal party braved outdoor photos on a cold day in January and wore full length fur coats to ward off the chill (all of which belonged to Denée’s grandmother and great-grandmother). Thinking back to their wedding day Denée and David share “we could not have imagined the day being any more perfect. It was amazing to be surrounded by 120 of our closest family and friends who travelled from all over Canada to share our special day, we truly fell in love!”

Favourite Moments

The “first look” was Denée and David’s favourite wedding day moment.
