Mountain Backdrop WeddingMegan + JP: Mountain Backdrop Wedding

Posted by Blush Magazine Posted on January 12, 2017

For some women, it’s a guy’s smile or sense of humour that attracts them. For Megan, it was the breakdancing moves J.P busted out at a party that sealed the deal.

The Proposal

After a few years of dating, J.P surprised Megan with a weekend trip to Vancouver for her birthday. By this time Megan had given up all hopes of getting engaged, so she was completely shocked when J.P proposed during a walk along the Seawall.

The Big Day

The fun-loving couple wanted a venue in the mountains that would also deliver the most bang for their buck. They loved the cabin-style charm of Cornerstone Theatre in Canmore, and how it was neutral enough to work with any colour scheme. After sealing their vows with a kiss, they concluded their outdoor ceremony with a fist pump from Megan and a thumbs up from J.P. “I loved that we were able to share our personalities with everyone at that moment,” says J.P. The newlyweds enjoyed some quiet moments together during photos to reflect on the ceremony and share some laughs, then arrived at their reception on top of the limo to kick off the party.

Favourite Moments

Megan: “During photos we were taken to a location where the wedding parties stayed in the limo and it was just us with the photographer. Having that time to reflect on the ceremony, share our excitement, and have some laughs was amazing. Many people told us before the wedding that we should try to take a minute or two just be together and take in the day, this part of the photo shooting allowed us to have 15 or 20.”

John Paul: My favourite moment was seeing Megan walk down the aisle. She had the biggest smile on her face and I could tell how excited she was to be walking towards me. After our first kiss as husband and wife, and in our true style, we turned to our families, Megan pumped her fist and I gave a thumbs up. I loved that we were able to share our personalities with everyone at that moment.”

Elegant Garden WeddingElyse + Brent: Elegant Garden Wedding

Posted by Blush Magazine Posted on January 10, 2017

The holiday season brought Elyse and Brent together in 2009, but it wasn’t until 2015 that the pair got engaged.

The Proposal

Brent planned on proposing to Elyse on their vacation in Bali and kept the ring hidden in his luggage until the perfect moment arrived on the beach at sunset. The moments that followed were full of happy tears and celebration!

The Big Day

Elyse and Brent were inspired by the great Alberta outdoors while planning their wedding. They wanted a beautiful, elegant garden party where their guests would have an exceptional experience – it was all about the atmosphere. From the signing table that was scattered with photographs of ‘those who couldn’t be here’ to the ring warming before the ceremony, their wedding day at Birchwood Meadows was filled with emotional moments. Their parents also performed a hand fastening ceremony in honour of their Irish heritage! It was important for Brent and Elyse to give back on their big day, so in lieu of gifts they asked their guests to make a donation to their favourite charities. It was also important to include meaningful items such as Elyse’s hankie and bouquet tie made from her mother’s wedding dress, and the pocket watch Brent inherited from his Grandfather. A fun twist was also a must, so they incorporated their love of dinosaurs with mix-matched dinosaur cake toppers and an inflatable dinosaur on the dance floor.

Favourite Moments

The highlights of the day for the couple included the exchanging of their personal vows, a surprise firework show, and a magical slow dance in the rain.

Newlywed Advice

‘Invest in quality vendors, when you hire professionals who really understand the business they are natural problem solvers and will make sure that your day runs smoothly. Enjoying your day should be a high priority, so structuring your day to eliminate stress is a must. A wedding coordinator is also a must-have investment. You can’t put a price on peace of mind on your wedding day. Oh – and a massage the night before won’t hurt.’

Countryside Alberta WeddingChloe + Faris: Countryside Alberta Wedding

Posted by Blush Magazine Posted on November 4, 2016

Chloe’s father resides in Dubai, so she took a few months off from her work and life in Vancouver to visit him and catch a break. Near the end of her trip, Chloe’s father threw his annual Rugby kick-off party and encouraged Chloe to invite her friends. Chloe reached out to her friends, who also brought guests of their own. Lo and behold one of her friends brought Faris to the party and the rest was history!

The Proposal

Faris surprised Chloe with a trip to Cappadocia, Turkey. When they arrived, there was a table set for two with traditional Turkish breakfast, coffee, a bottle of champagne and flowers. Chloe felt that he was up to something. Faris’ “cue” for the hotel staff was him taking his jacket off. Chloe was standing in a separate area taking photos and when Faris gave the signal, a violin started playing. Chloe turned to Faris, he was on his knee, trembling and that is when she realized that it was happening. He had also hired a local photographer to capture it all on camera. “It was such a unique moment and so special” Chloe shares. To top off the proposal trip, Faris then surprised Chloe with tickets to Portugal! So they flew to Istanbul for a night and then went to Portugal for 10 days.

The Big Day

The couple held a stunning natural wedding at Chloe’s family’s horse ranch in Millarville, AB. It’s a place that has been her oasis since she was a little girl. Most of their guests traveled from all over the world. Chloe rode in with her parents in a horse carriage, a magical experience in itself. The food was incredible, organic and farm-to-table, Chloe is a natural food chef and holistic nutritionist, so the expectations were very high.

They offered carriage rides for all of their guests and as favors left memory cards that Chloe and Faris’s caricature that her best friend and maid of honour made especially for them.

Favourite Moments

Faris:When the clouds cleared as Chloe arrived to the ceremony site and the sun literally shined down on everyone we know and love.”

Chloe:Moments before we arrived at the ceremony location, at the top of a hill where Faris and everyone awaited. It was as if everything had come to this moment – the question of whether or not we would get poured on. I remember, sitting there, in the carriage, which was pulled by two beautifully gentle horses, in between my parents- and feeling that “bridal moment” that you always hope to feel. Anticipation, wonder, disbelief, excitement, butterflies, love, light, transformation…all of it, in one breath. Right before the carriage driver asked “where would you like for us to pull up to, Chloe” and I answered with “right at the barrels please”. And the clouds parted just for the ceremony. Just in time for my entrance.”

Newlywed Advice

Trust your original instinct. To put it in perspective our first thought, when we sat on the edge of Portugal, on the coastline, drinking bottles of wine and watching the sunset- we knew it would take place on the ranch. However, we then started to follow stories of fear, worry and anxiety- and went into fantasyland. So, we went castle hunting in England for a prim n’ proper British affair for a week. I distinctly remember, after a long day of driving around the Cotswolds, we sat in a pub, eating fish and chips, and feeling SO disheartened.

When we gave ourselves space from this, and reconnected to what we love- we realized that we had to follow our hearts.

We ended up at the Calgary Stampede with country music on blast, with a beautiful rehearsal dinner/welcome party at River Cafe and ending with a picturesque ranch ceremony and saloon party.

Looking Forward to Most Now Being Married

“Creating a beautiful home that reflects our visions, light and love. Growing and evolving together. Waking up and falling asleep in a big and beautifully comfortable bed that is ours, together.  Working and moving through all of the rises and falls of life together. Hanging up some of our favourite wedding photos on the wall.”

Rustic Elegance WeddingJessica + Brandon: Rustic Elegance Wedding

Posted by Blush Magazine Posted on October 26, 2016

Jessica and Brandon first met at the Big Valley Jamboree. After meeting the first night, they spent the entire weekend together with their friends. It wasn’t long after returning home that they went on their first date and the rest was history.

The Proposal

The couple were camping in Sandpoint, Idaho for their summer vacation. One morning when they woke up Brandon suggested they take the dog for a walk along the water. They were enjoying the view and each others company, laughing and joking around as they usually do. Brandon found a moment to get down on one knee, asked the question and Jessica answered with a teary, “Yes!”

The Big Day

Jessica and Brandon were really open on what they wanted when they started looking for a wedding venue. Lions Garden was the first venue they saw in the city and booked it on the spot. “It just felt like us,” Jessica shares, “We loved that our guests could camp nearby, and we loved the look and feel of the whole venue.”It was most important to Jessica and Brandon that their guests had fun and were well fed. They had a traditional Ukrainian meal for dinner and a food truck for their midnight snack. “Our wedding was a beautiful representation of us, with the rustic but yet glamorous venue, the delicious meals, and incredible company of our friends and family.”

Favourite Moments

Jessica:We had a glitch in the sound system during our ceremony, which took a couple minutes to get the microphones working again. It was my favourite moment because it slowed it all down and gave us a time to just say “Hi” to each other.”

Brandon:Seeing my bride walk down the aisle. I was so excited to see her in her dress.”

Outdoor Summer Wedding: Kara + KyleOutdoor Edson Wedding: Kara + Kyle

Posted by Blush Magazine Posted on August 25, 2015

Kara and Kyle met through mutual friends while playing on the same softball team, but it took Kyle over two years to hit a homerun and win Kara’s heart.

The Proposal

One year Kyle sent Kara on a scavenger hunt around their home and neighbourhood to find her Christmas present. The last clue was to find the comfiest bed in the house; Kara ran into their bedroom to find Kyle down on one knee. “My Christmas present that year was Kyle… Forever!”

The Big Day

The couple wanted to hold their wedding in a place near and dear to them: their own property in their hometown of Edson. They exchanged rings in a beautiful riverside ceremony officiated by Kara’s aunt, then danced the starry night away to a live band under a white tent. Their 230 guests were treated to cotton candy, a spectacular fireworks display, and watching the couple cruise around in their 1986 Rockwood motorhome.

Favourite Moments

Kara: Seeing Kyle’s face when she walked down the aisle and being pronounced husband and wife.

Kyle: The combination of gorgeous weather, their favourite people, and marrying the love of his life.
