Spring Lake House WeddingSacha + Colin: Spring Lake House Wedding

Posted by Blush Magazine Posted on November 22, 2018

Sacha and Colin—who met through a mutual friend—drove to the mountains for a day of hiking but had to change plans when they couldn’t access their intended trail. They stopped at the Post Hotel in Lake Louise and decided to take a walk along the river. They were sitting on the bank talking about the future over a beer when Colin asked Sacha to marry him. He completed the surprise with a champagne dinner and overnight stay at the hotel.

The Big Day

They wanted a wedding venue that could accommodate their large guest list for both the ceremony and reception yet still feel intimate. They were immediately sold on the gorgeous lake views, beautiful interior, and incredible food at The Lake House. “It was the perfect blend of rustic elegance.”

They describe their wedding as a day of pure joy that set them up beautifully for their life together as husband and wife, and they hope to grow their family.

Favourite Moments

Sacha’s favourite moment was seeing Colin at their first look in Fish Creek Park; she felt all her nerves just melt away. Colin remembers looking across the room during dinner and seeing all their family and friends laughing together. “The outpouring of love that we felt from everyone that day made it truly unforgettable.”

Intimate Dinner WeddingAnnan + Justin: Intimate Dinner Wedding

Posted by Blush Magazine Posted on January 15, 2018

Annan and Justin met at the gym, but Justin was so shy his best friend had to ask for Annan’s number. Things didn’t take off between them, but they kept in touch and eventually became sweethearts after university.

The Proposal

One morning while lying in bed, Annan was showing Justin pictures of engagement rings on her phone. He reached over to his nightstand, took out a small box and asked, “What about this one?” Unfortunately their celebration was cut short as two days later they were evacuated from their Fort McMurray home due to the 2016 wildfire.

The Big Day

Annan and Justin didn’t want a large, traditional wedding, so they planned an “unwedding.” They sent out invitations for a belated engagement dinner to 30 of their closest friends and family at Ruth’s Chris Steak House, which is where they had dinner during their first trip to Edmonton together. What most guests didn’t know is that they had just said their vows in front of just their officiant, photographer, and two witnesses.

They got married on Annan’s late father’s birthday, and she had her brother fill in as maid-of-honour before meeting Justin at the exact table in the Westin bar where he had asked her to be his girlfriend. “It was like coming full circle,” she said.

Favourite Moments

Annan: “My brother, James, helping me with my dress. I’m sure that’s supposed to be a Maid of Honor moment but he was by the far the perfect person to ensure everything was perfect before getting married. Followed by meeting Justin at the exact table in the bar at the Westin where he’d asked me to be his girlfriend so we could walk to our ceremony together. It was like coming full circle.”

Justin: “Annan being so emotional during the private ceremony that she couldn’t remember which hand was left during the exchanging of the rings.”

Untraditional Stylish WeddingMarcy + Greg: Untraditional Stylish Wedding

Posted by Blush Magazine Posted on November 21, 2016

It’s no secret that we are currently dating in the age of the internet. Like many couples Marcy and Greg met online through Match.com.

The Proposal

It was April 17th, one year to the day from their first date. Greg tricked Marcy  into thinking he had gone to work that day but he had actually stayed home to organize his proposal. She came home that afternoon to champagne and a letter that said “read me”. He was video taping her and she thought it was a kind gesture to celebrate a year of being together and to kick off their holiday to the Dominican Republic. Greg has always been the romantic type so this did not seem out of the ordinary for Marcy. Their favourite songs were playing in the background, a trail of rose petals and ribbon led to the second “read me” letter which lead to another, and another (12 in total)  – one for every month they had been together. The last letter instructed Marcy to pull the ribbon that was hanging down from the upper corner of the ceiling in their bedroom. She pulled it down and a ring box slid right into her hands. Marcy turned to look at him and Greg was down on one knee. From there, they went to Famoso where they had their first date to get some dinner before heading to the airport

The Big Day

Marcy and Greg booked the Prince of Wales Armouries for their ceremony for the style and convenience. They were allowed to bring in our own chairs and set up a day in advance. The Governors Room features original wood floors, gold light fixtures and beautiful detail on the walls and ceiling. All the couple added were gold chiavari chairs, clear vases and white pillar candles to line the aisle. The backdrop was a labor of love crafted by the brides mother and Greg.

For their reception, the couple chose Parlour Kitchen + Bar for it’s beautiful space and quality of food. They were envisioning a unique and classy evening, both felt that Parlour was the perfect place for it. Greg handmade Marcy a memory box, painted gold with Mrs.Ferrari cut into the top of it. It was filled with post it notes with cute messages on them, a letter he had written, a necklace and earrings from Hillberg & Berk, and even her wedding shoes (which he had sneakily taken from her to write a message on the bottom).

The couple opted out of a lot of traditional details; no cake, no bouquet and garter toss, no formal speeches or agenda, no kids, no chicken dance or cadillac ranch. Their celebration was a true reflection of them.

Favourite Moments

Marcy: “Our first dance”

Greg:Seeing her for the first time when she walked down the aisle.”

Charbar YYC WeddingAlexandra + Adam: Charbar YYC Wedding

Posted by Blush Magazine Posted on September 15, 2016

While Alexandra and Adam’s story sounds traditional at first—they met and fell in love during law school—their wedding was anything but. For a long time marriage was a hypothetical scenario until they were in a financial position to fund the type of wedding they wanted. When that time came, Alexandra and Adam skipped the formal proposal, set a date and started planning.

The Proposal

For a long time marriage was a hypothetical scenario until they were in a financial position to fund the type of wedding they wanted. When that time came, Alexandra and Adam skipped the formal proposal, set a date and started planning.

The Big Day

The couple wanted a unique venue with plenty of character to host both their ceremony and reception for 80 guests. Housed in Calgary’s historic Simmons building, local restaurant Charbar provided a charming atmosphere, fantastic food and gorgeous views of the Bow River.

The first tradition they cut was having a bridal party; Alexandra hosted a tea party the morning of the wedding to include her girlfriends while she was getting ready. Alexandra also loves boy band music, so a string duet played One Direction’s “What Makes You Beautiful” as she walked down the aisle.

Adam enjoyed the first dance with his wife, which was also the only dance during the reception. They entertained guests with board games during the cocktail hour and topped off the evening with coffee and macarons instead of cake.

Favourite Moments

Alexandra:  “Holding hands with Adam during the ceremony.”

Adam:  “The first dance with my wife”

Laduree Inspired WeddingSilvia + Dean: Laduree Inspired Wedding

Posted by Blush Magazine Posted on February 17, 2016

The Proposal

Classic romance captures the essence of Silvia and Dean’s love story. On New Year’s Eve, Dean escorted Silvia to Rouge—her favourite restaurant and the place they fell in love—to enjoy a delightful three-course meal. With proposal plans made in advance, the couple was seated at the restaurant’s most intimate, private table where just before dessert Dean pulled a ring box out of his pocket and surprised Silvia with the question of her dreams, “Will you marry me?” Of course, she said yes.

The Big Day

Inspired by a Ladurée Macarons ad, Silvia and Dean’s wedding embodied the class, elegance and sophistication of French lifestyle. The couple selected The Rimrock Resort Hotel as their venue because its simple elegance and beautifully romantic atmosphere neatly complimented the unique décor details such as gorgeous hand-painted props on the dessert table and colourful florals that represent the couple’s favourite macarons.

Favourite Moments

Silvia:This is hard to answer as I had so many favourite moments. If I had to pick one, it would be when the curtains were pulled back and I was about to walk down the aisle and seeing Dean waiting for me. It was a very special moment for me because I couldn’t believe how lucky I was to become his wife.”

Dean:We finished our photo session with Nathan hours earlier than we anticipated, which allowed us time to eat soup, sandwich and truffles. In that moment I realized that this was our first meal as husband and wife.”
